When the Way Forward Isn’t Clear — You’re Not Alone

Many seekers come to me unsure of what they need, where to begin, or what spiritual services might help them. Yet they know something feels off — something in their life feels incomplete or missing.

I call this feeling "spiritual distress" — a deep inner knowing that something spiritual is affecting your mind, body, and soul. It may leave you feeling stuck, disconnected, or unsure how to move forward.

If this resonates with you, you are not alone. And you don’t have to figure it out by yourself.

What Causes Spiritual Distress?

Spiritual distress can present for many reasons including:

  • Major transition.

  • Challenging life circumstance.

  • Loss of something or someone important.

  • Spiritual awakening.

  • Conflict between old beliefs and new beliefs.

  • Situations that challenge your morals or values.

  • Life-altering experiences.

  • A burden you've been carrying and trying to work through.

  • Chaotic situations that arise when boundaries have been broken.

  • Struggling to find or maintain hope.

  • A deep yearning for something more from life.

  • Difficulty coming to terms with guilt or self-forgiveness.

  • A desire to more deeply understand your existence.

  • Past experiences that are still affecting your present life.

These experiences can impact your mental, emotional, and even physical well-being — leaving you feeling ungrounded, uncertain, or spiritually adrift.

How Do You Know If You're In Spiritual Distress?

I believe we are all intuitive — and you may already sense something is off. Spiritual distress often shows up as feeling ungrounded, unbalanced, stuck, or empty inside. You may notice:

  • Pondering deep questions about the meaning of life.

  • Questioning your belief system or struggling with past  spiritual or religious identities.

  • Persistent sadness, anxiety, or a sense of emptiness.

  • Disconnection — from yourself, others, or the sacred.

  • Overwhelm, anger, or despair.

  • Isolation and loneliness.

  • A sense of drifting without direction.

  • Wondering if Spirit is listening or has forgotten about you.

  • A longing for healing, clarity, or deeper understanding.

  • A quiet but persistent yearning to seek spiritual support.

Spiritual distress doesn’t always appear as a crisis — sometimes, it’s a quiet discomfort, an inner pull that something needs attention.

Physical Distress

Pain and other physical symptoms can sometimes be expressions of spiritual distress. In core shamanism, we refer to this as "dis-ease" — a state of inner imbalance where something has disrupted your grounding, harmony, or peace.

When dis-ease goes unresolved, it may eventually manifest as physical discomfort or illness — what we know as "disease." If you’re experiencing symptoms without a clear cause or if traditional treatments haven't brought relief, we can explore whether spiritual practices might help restore balance and ease.

Where Do We Begin?

If you’re not sure where to start, I recommend beginning with a Spiritual Direction/Guidance session. This is a sacred, grounded space to talk through what you're experiencing, gain clarity, and co-create a plan forward  — one rooted in wisdom and discernment. Together, we will:

  • Uncover what's at the root of your distress — bringing awareness to what's calling for attention.

  • Explore potential paths — spiritual practices, healing tools, or contemplative approaches that resonate with you.

  • Develop an action plan — tailored to your unique experience and needs.

Possible Paths for Your Journey

Your spiritual path is unique, and so is the way we'll approach it. Depending on what resonates with you, we might explore:

  • Spiritual Direction and Mentoring — Gaining clarity through intuitively guided conversation.

  • Contemplative Practices — Meditation, journaling, or mindfulness.

  • Core Shamanism and Healing — Exploring energetic or ancestral healing.

  • Walking the Labyrinth — Using sacred movement for reflection and insight.

  • Creative Expression — Integrating music, art, writing, or movement.

  • Reconnecting with Nature — Grounding through outdoor practices.

  • Sound Healing and Meditation — Using sound to restore harmony.

  • Belief Integration — Blending old and new spiritual perspectives to find meaning.

  • Discerning Your Spiritual Connections — Clarifying how you most deeply connect — through nature, relationships, creativity, spirituality, or contemplative practices.

There is no single “right” way — only the path that resonates with you.

A Flexible Approach: Your Journey, Your Pace

Our work together is fluid, intuitive, and adaptive, shaped by what arises in each session. Your journey might unfold like this:

  • Session 1: Unpacking emotions and identifying what’s needed.

  • Session 4+: Deepening the work, refining practices, and celebrating transformation.

Each session is a sacred space — whether for reflection, healing, clarity, or simply holding space for you to be heard.
